Churches that transform communities through service, are you one?
What is a Service Powered Church? Service Powered churches have mobilized their people as missional forces in the community—agents of transformation, motivated by love and equipped to serve. Power doesn’t come from service, but it only comes to those who serve. They take many shapes and sizes, but they all have in common an intentional process and practice that demonstrates the love of Christ in a way that community members can understand.
They know that church members who have discovered the power of serving will live out missional lifestyles and take the impact of the church from within the walls to where people live, work and play. Service powered churches have the ability to attract the emerging generation—a group that believes that real credibility requires meaningful service to others. Service powered churches understand their community’s needs, and use an intentional process to listen to the voices of need as well as the gifts and assets in the community. They purposefully match up their gifts and calling with the needs they have discovered through direct interaction. Service powered churches know how to speak the language of community, and prefer partnerships over silos, and paint brushes over billboards.
These churches and their leaders understand how to take best practices from social work and apply them to volunteer movements, bringing new resources to community wastelands of need, and new hope where no hope could be found. They take redemptive relationships and holistic concern across traditional boundaries and demonstrate the real character of God as one who comes to reach out and restore community.
